Wythenshawe winners

The grand final of ‘Wythenshawe’s Got Talent 2009’ recently gave us plenty more reasons to be proud of our community.
Tough competition
Hundreds of acts competed to win a place in the online semi-finals, where there was room for only 17 across the three age categories.
And the winners are …
Nine year old dancer, Poppy O’Neil, won the under 11s category, as well as the main prize, which means she’ll be going home with £500. For the 12-17 category, victory and £250 went to local dance group, Toe Tappers, who were also last year’s winners. The final prize of £250 went to Pam Thompson in the adults’ category, who wowed the crowd with ‘Over the Rainbow’.
Poppy pride
Poppy O’Neil took the overall prize after impressing both judges and audience with two stunning dance performances. Her mum Vicky said, ‘She was over the moon to have won. It was a real struggle to get her to bed after all the excitement of the night, even though she had a dance exam the next day!’
Talent-packed
Just like last year, the competition showed how our area is packed with talent. Pat Higson, one of the Talent organisers, said, “We’ve proved yet again there is so much talent to be celebrated, here in Wythenshawe. A big thank you to everyone involved in making the event a huge success”.
