Benefits and welfare advice

Millions of pounds of benefits go unclaimed every year – you could be under claiming important benefits that could put more money in your pocket. It is important that you check your benefit entitlement every year to make sure that you are claiming your full entitlement.

If you need help with your benefits from getting your entitlement checked to appealing a decision there are lots of places for you to go, whether you want a face to face appointment, home visit or online or telephone advice.

Hospital

If you’re receiving treatment from a Manchester hospital you can get free welfare rights and benefits advice from your hospital, your home or by telephone or email.

The Macmillan advice workers offer a free and confidential advice service covering welfare benefits, debt, housing and employment issues for people affected by cancer and their families and carers. Appointments can be made in their office on the purple zone or on the wards. The service is for any adult who uses or receives services from Central Manchester University NHS Trust or St Mary’s Hospital.

If you are being treated at the Christie Hospital you can get free benefits and general advice from the hospital.

Drop in sessions for patients, friends, carers or relatives every Weds and Fri mornings between 9.30am and 12.30pm.
