The new computer facilities Parkway Green and partners help locals switch on their skills

Switching on futures when we join forces to build a community computer room at the Royal Oak Community Centre.

The transformation team

Working with Connaught, HT Forrest, Emmanuel Whittaker and Bramall, we’ve helped transform an underused room at the Royal Oak Community Centre in Wythenshawe. Together we’ve donated over £5,000 of work to the project, including a complete rewire, new floor and skirting boards, a work bench and brand new computer desks. We even helped to set up the computers.

A digital difference

The room will be used for computer training classes, as well as other learning and employment support sessions. The idea to transform the room into a valuable community resource was brought to the partners by Ian Gregg, Director for Communities and Investment for Parkway Green Housing Trust. Ian said: “The provision of this training suite means that the legacy of our improvement contractors will survive long after our promises programme is completed!”

A new class of confidence

Gina Hall, of the Royal Oak Community Centre, said: “Now we have a dual purpose room that can be used for training as well as I.T. lessons. It has made a difference because we now have double the amount of computers. And we can access more classes for the benefit of our local residents to gain more confidence before they move on to Forum Learning and the classes are accredited so they get a qualification.” Gina went on to say: ”It looks really good and the best thing is that it’s been done, not only with the legacy group, but with the help of local volunteers.”
