From Baguley to Canada
Local lad made good: Our sponsorship helped get Sam from
Wythenshawe to Vancouver.
A budding young local athlete has represented his country in a world event in Canada - with a bit of help from us!
Seventeen year old Sam Glover from Baguley competed in the top international triathlon event for younger athletes in Vancouver. (For the less athletically-minded reader, a triathlon is an endurance sports event where you swim, cycle and run over long distances).
He was the second fastest Brit at the event, and came twelfth overall - despite competing against many 19 and 20 year olds. He completed the gruelling course despite being treated for hypothermia after swimming in sea temperatures of just 10.8 degrees.
Investing in the community
Getting to Canada and competing at such a high level is an expensive business. That's where we stepped in with a £640 pound grant from the 'Faces and Places' regeneration budget we set aside for investing in the local community. "Without Parkway Green's help I wouldn't have been able to get to Vancouver", says Sam.
"We're very proud to support budding local talent and help people achieve their potential", says regeneration manager Allison Sullivan. "Sam is incredibly focused and driven to succeed. Remember his name - you heard it here first".
