As part of a commitment to support literacy in the Wythenshawe area, Willow Park and Parkway Green Housing Trust invited pupils from Wythenshawe primary schools to meet a new character called ‘Robert the rhino'.

Robert is a football-mad rhino and is the main character in a new children's book called ‘Robert's bright idea!', created and written by Paul Hodson and illustrated by Tina Jackson.

Each school was presented with 50 copies of the book by Robert the rhino himself alongside Eddy Newman, Chair of Willow Park and Wynn Casey, Deputy Chair of Parkway Green.

Joe Doherty, Chief Executive of Willow Park, commented: "Reading is so important and to be able to bring the character to life in this way was magical. Supporting the introduction of this book is just one aspect of a number of projects which the Trusts are involved with to support literacy in our area."

Nigel Wilson, Chief Executive of Parkway Green also commented: "The children had a great time, they met the author and illustrator and took part in a ceremonial cake cutting before enjoying a buffet lunch. We would like to thank all the schools and other partners who were able to join us for this event and hope the books help the children continue to develop their enjoyment of reading."
