Chief Superintendent, David Anthony, recently reassured Northern Moor residents about damage to their community centre.
The police message is a response to the second part of ITV’s Duchess of the Estate, in which the community centre was damaged. At first, it seemed that the damage was caused by gunfire. The police now want to reassure residents after a comprehensive investigation, that the is ‘no evidence to suggest that a firearm caused this damage’. Chief Superintendent, David Anthony, went on to say: ‘I want to reassure residents that incidents involving firearms are extremely rare in Northern Moor. The damage caused to the community centre was most likely caused by stones or pellets.’
The Chief Superintendent is also keen to address the issues that featured in the broadcast: ‘The programme portrayed Northern Moor as an area riddled with crime and anti-social behaviour when in reality this is not the case. Crime and anti-social behaviour continues to decrease in Northern Moor. Between 1 January and 14 August – and compared to the same period last year – there were 178 fewer victims of anti-social behaviour, vehicle crime, off-road bike incidents and criminal damage (which are the key areas of concerns for local residents). Your Neighbourhood Policing Team is working hard to tackle your local priorities to even better your quality of life.’
Finally, the Chief Superintendent wanted to remind the public that ‘Northern Moor is an exciting and thriving place to live, and there is a strong sense of community spirit within the area. The residents that I have met are very proud to live in Northern Moor and rightly so.’
