Let's dance!

Our over-60s are getting out more

Older people dancing Come for a spin: join us for free dancing, fun and friendship

We've got big plans to improve opportunities for older people in Parkway Green neighbourhoods - as a recent five-week series of special events showed.

The Valuing Older People sessions in January 2008 saw local people having a go at everything from computers and the internet to Tai Chi, yoga, pedicure, and ballroom and sequence dancing.

Wiser heads

Councillor Susan Cooley, who is on our decision-making board, is also Manchester City Council's 'champion' of older people. "Parkway Green is about more than just improving the homes we live in," she says. "We're a key player in the wider regeneration of West Wythenshawe too. We want to make sure that the wisdom, experience, needs and contributions of the area's over-60-year-olds are fully included in the community's regeneration."

Events like this keep us in touch with Wythenshawe's older, wiser heads. We'll make sure that the views, needs and comments of our over-60s are heard by the agencies serving our community.

Big hit

The dancing was such a big hit that the sessions are still going! If you're over 50 why not come ballroom and sequence dancing with professional tutors Lloyd and Margaret? Walz down to:

  • Royal Oak Community Centre, Royal Oak Road, Baguley
  • 1pm to 4pm every other Tuesday from 17 June (ring 0161 946 6387 for dates)

Entrance, refreshments, fun and friendship - all for FREE. Just turn up. Beginners and experts equally welcome!
