Demolition halted by Birdsong
Chair of the PGHT Board Cllr Tony Burns The demolition of 50 Parkway Green properties in Newall Green has been put on hold until early autumn.
The ‘Orlit' houses were due to begin being demolished at the start of summer but have been put on hold due to nesting birds in the 2.5 acre site.
The houses are to be knocked down after a survey found that it would be too costly to bring the homes up to a standard that is sustainable for the future.
All the 50 tenants living in the properties were re-housed just before Christmas but now only very limited work is allowed to be carried out due to the nesting birds.
Chief Executive Nigel Wilson said: "At Parkway Green we care about all our residents, even the winged variety! And we will take every step we can to make sure the area is safe before the demolition begins.
"Parkway Green would like to take this opportunity to thank residents
for their understanding and patience during what was a very difficult time
for them."
