Looking to the future...

Housing Minister

Year 10 pupils from The Manchester Health Academy were the latest participants in the BW3, Businesses Working with Wythenshawe, Job Search Skills programme.

Pupils were able to learn about the range of skills and attributes required to access employment, training and further education. Students received expert business guidance on how to look for a job, complete application forms, create a CV and present themselves for an interview before having an interview of their own.

The event was hosted by Parkway Green Housing Trust and students were able to meet a range of business experts from local organisations including; Lloyds Banking Group, Manchester Airport, Manchester City Council, Shell, Microsoft and Willow Park Housing Trust.

Sue Foster, coordinator for The Manchester Health Academy, said. "Our students have had a very enjoyable and informative day. I am sure today's event will prove extremely valuable to our students in the future and we very much appreciate local organisations offering their time and support."

BW3 Chair and Manchester Airport Community Relations Manager, Wendy Sinfield added "The Job Search Skills programme allows us to provide practical advice and guidance to young people in our community. We hope today's event will support students in their development and provide a solid foundation as they begin to consider their future careers."

Parkway Green's Helen Hawxwell, who helped to organise the event said: "This is a great opportunity to get involved with our communities and help young people take their first steps to gaining employment and developing their skills. All our staff who took part in the day really enjoyed themselves and we will be looking to host more events in the future including a similar ‘get hired' event for adults later this year"

One student said "It's helped me because I now know what is expected of me by employers on application forms and C.V's and in interviews".
