The group of Korean housing professionals visited us on 12 July 2007 at
Parkway Green House.
Korea came to Wythenshawe recently when Parkway Green Housing Trust welcomed a group of Korean housing professionals keen to know how we manage successful social housing here.
Facilitated by the Centre for Urban and Regional Studies at Birmingham University, the visit included a mini-bus tour of the estate together with a presentation on how Parkway Green formed its visions and values and how those have been put into practice in delivering its £90m improvement programme.
South Korea currently has very little housing run by housing associations or councils but the government is now planning to build one million houses in its social sector by 2012 and is keen to pick up good practice and tips for how this can best be achieved.
The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Glynn Evans was guest of honour at the event, giving a welcome speech to the Korean party. As a former board member and West Wythenshawe resident, the housing trust and its success is very close to his heart.
Chief Executive, Nigel Wilson said, "Our Korean friends may have visited to learn about good practice from us but we also learned that we hared an enthusiasm and ambition to make social housing a success in our respective countries."
