Tuesday 31 October 2006 was a historic day for the people of Baguley, Northern Moor, Brooklands, Newall Green and Northenden.

It was the first day of a brighter future for tenants living in the area's 6,000 homes; the day they transferred from Manchester City Council to their new, not-for-profit landlord, Parkway Green Housing Trust.

You and your Parkway Green neighbours can now look forward to a share of £90 million of home improvements. The work, starting in Autumn 2006, will bring all homes up to decent, modern standards - based on the priorities tenants told us about during the build-up to the transfer. We're going to spend another £9 million on the local environment to make Parkway Green neighbourhoods more pleasant, safer places to live.

Just the beginning

Local people joined in with staff, board members and other guests to celebrate the launch at historic Wythenshawe Hall. As the green balloons soared, Manchester's deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Glyn Evans thanked everyone, past and present, who had helped bring the new organisation to life. Local people living in Alfred Morris Court got a slice of the action when they tucked into the celebratory cake.

"This is just the beginning" said Chief Executive, Nigel Wilson. "Our plans go much further than the bricks-and-mortar improvements. Parkway Green and its partners will be at the forefront of the whole regeneration of West Wythenshawe, helping improve the quality of life of everyone who lives here".

A local housing service

Parkway Green is now the place to come for all your local housing services - from repairs to rent; from rehousing to neighbour disputes. The City Council will continue to deliver other services like education, rubbish collection, social services, leisure and library facilities.

Parkway Green is run by a 15-strong board of volunteers. There are five 'tenant board members'. They have equal decision-making power with the five board members nominated by the Council - councillors and senior staff - and with the five 'independent' board members who are people with specialist knowledge.
