Dig Deep 2010

GMEC Awards Picture shows – PG Turnaround members Jacob Craven and Daniel Griffin.

Two members of Parkway Green's ‘PG Turnaround' project have been volunteering at Wythenshawe Park as part of the 2010 Dig Deep Programme.

Jacob Craven and Daniel Griffin took part in a six week volunteering programme to help make a difference to the walled garden at Wythenshawe Park.

At the end of the course everyone who took part was presented with a certificate and had their names engraved on a plaque in the walled garden as a thank you for all their hard work.

The scheme has been organised by Groundwork and Manchester City Council, to help create better neighbourhoods, build skills and job prospects in order to live and work in a greener way.

The ‘PG Turnaround' scheme is a project developed with GM Procure to help get ex-offenders back into work with a 100 per cent success rate, through the provision of training, work experience and assistance with CVs and interview techniques.

Jacob said: "It was a great project to be involved in as it felt like we were really making a visible difference to the park. It was nice to be recognised for the work we put in and have our names engraved on a plaque in the walled garden."

Since it began in 2009 it's been going from strength to strength and was also recently shortlisted for a national Housing Heroes Award.

Andrew, who is part of the PG Turnaround Project, said: "It's a real honour to be recognised and for the team to win the award."

Parkway Green's Chief Executive Nigel Wilson said: "We are delighted to be recognised and to win the award. We all share enormous pride in seeing the Trust recognised for the hard work we are doing at such a prestigious event. Thank you and well done to everyone who's helped make PG Turnaround so successful."
