Creative Camps Take Wythenshawe ‘Out of this world'

People from all corners of Wythenshawe came together to create something ‘out of this world' as Wythenshawe's entry into the very first Manchester Parade, started to take shape.
More than 60 people took part in two ‘Mass Creative Camps', at Wythenshawe Forum, to help make the costumes and props for the June parade under the guidance of community artist Helen Plaumer.
Helen said: "A huge thank you to all those who came down and got involved in the creative camps. There was a great atmosphere and it was nice to see people of all ages coming together to help support the area. We are now well on our way and looking forward to seeing all the things we made for the parade."
The Manchester Parade, which takes place on Sunday June 20, will be a celebration of the area's garden city heritage and will focus on all the trees, parks, gardens and wildlife of the area. The creative camps to make Wythenshawe's entry for the parade attracted local MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East Paul Goggins, who came down and got involved in helping to make things for the parade.
Parkway Green's Chief Executive Nigel Wilson said: "We know there are lots of fantastic things going on here in Wythenshawe, and the Manchester Parade is a great opportunity to showcase this."
Willow Park Housing Trust's Chief Executive Joe Doherty said: "Wythenshawe has so much to offer – not least its brilliant community spirit. Working together for this entry into the Manchester Parade is a great example of this. We hope that lots of people will come and see all the hard work that has been done to create a spectacular Wythenshawe entry into the Manchester Parade. "
This massive outdoor carnival-style parade is the latest event to be staged by a city which has become world famous for its outdoor entertainments programme from Whit Walks to Manchester Pride. The parade, for one afternoon, will bring together all the many different cultures and organisations living and working in the city.
Make a note in your diary for 2pm Sunday, June 20, and take the family for a fun day in the city centre to celebrate Wythenshawe's entry into the Manchester Parade.
