How we allocate homes

Homes normally go to the person with the earliest queue date - as long as they're in the right rehousing category

Homes normally go to the person with the earliest queue date - as long as they're in the right re-housing category

We use our priority category system to decide who gets around half of the homes we have available.

We have a legal agreement to offer the rest of our homes to people using re-housing rules set by Manchester City Council, and to house applicants that the council puts forward.

We advertise our available properties on Homefinder – the online listing of homes to rent from not-for-profit landlords in Manchester.

Rehousing categories

Each home we advertise on Homefinder is labelled as available only to people in a particular re-housing category – category A, category B, or category C. Some homes are only available to people over a certain age.

There are more people in category B than category A. So we advertise homes on a ‘two to one’ basis - two for category B, to every one for category A.

The bidder with the earliest queue date is normally offered the home first.

Chances and choices

Your chance of a home depends on several things – see Your chance of a home If your chances are poor, if you can't find anything, or if you’ve been registered for re-housing for a long time, look at Other housing options.
