Tackling antisocial behaviour: our commitment
Local people know best. A good landlord listens and empowers the
community to help beat anti social behaviour. We are determined to tackle anti social behaviour and encourage people to respect their neighbours and community.
Too many people still experience anti social behaviour, and feel helpless to stop it. But a great deal can be done and it works. Landlords play an important role working with the community, the police and other services. We can help protect communities from anti social behaviour and stop it happening in the first place.
Our commitment
We have signed up for a set of commitments that describe how we will build respect:
- Accountability, leadership, and commitment
We will do everything in our power to create a culture of respect. Everyone in our organisation must understand what it takes to make a positive difference and be prepared to carry out what they promise. - Empowering and reassuring residents
Nobody knows better than local people about what needs doing. We will listen and communicate regularly and clearly with the community. - Acting quickly to protect communities
Some anti social behaviour can be nipped in the bud. If problems are not dealt with quickly, the perpetrators feel they can get away with it. We will clearly warn people about their behaviour and act quickly if they don't change. We will use the tools and powers the government has provided; ASBO's, injunctions and evictions where appropriate. - Making it as easy as possible for people to take
action
Many people find it stressful to complain. We will make it as easy as possible for people to make that first move and support them through the process - especially if they have to give evidence in court. - Tackling the causes of anti social behaviour
The first priority is always to protect the community. But to beat the problem long term we need to help people to change their anti social behaviour. We can work with other organisations to get to the root causes such as family breakdown, poor parenting skills, drugs and alcohol - and provide support to people who want to get back on track.
What can you do?
We want people to take a stand against all anti social behaviour. If you are having problems do what you can first, for example asking a neighbour to keep the noise down late at night. But if the problems continue, or are more serious report antisocial behaviour: we can help.
