Leaseholders
Can I buy my home?
As a secure tenant, under the Right to Buy scheme you can apply to buy your home at a price lower than the market value as long as the property is your principal home.
You must also meet the following criteria:
- You are a secure tenant or became an assured tenant at the time of transfer from Manchester City Council to Parkway Green Housing Trust
- Your secure tenancy was in existence before 18 January 2005
- Spent at least 2 years as a public sector tenant before 18 January 2005
- If your tenancy started after 18 Jan 2005 you have to wait 5 years before you apply
There are circumstances when you cannot buy your home:
- If a court makes a possession order to evict you
- If you are un-discharged bankrupt or have a bankruptcy order pending
- If you have outstanding creditor arrangements which you still owe money against
- If you are involved in any neighbour nuisance case
- If you owe more than four weeks rent
- If you live in sheltered housing or your property is due to be demolished
- If you are living in temporary accommodation
If you decide to buy your flat you will become a leaseholder and pay a service charge.
